1. Loose Connection
Push the connector firmly until it clicks. A partially seated cable is the most common cause of "no communication" errors.
2. Damaged Pins
Inspect the 16 pins for bending, corrosion, or recession. A single bent pin can block communication.
3. Blown Fuse
The OBD2 port is usually powered by the cigarette lighter or accessory circuit. Check your fuse box—a blown fuse kills port power.
4. Bad Cable Shielding
Cheap unshielded cables pick up interference. Try a different cable to confirm.
5. Wrong Adapter
Using a 9-pin or 20-pin adapter on the wrong vehicle won't work. Verify connector compatibility.
6. Ignition Position
Some vehicles require the ignition in "ON" (not just accessory) for the OBD2 port to power up.
Still Not Working?
Test the port with a known-good scanner. If that fails too, the issue is in the vehicle's wiring, not the cable.
